Community Studios CIC is launching a new weekly creative workshop at Burnley Central Library, bringing together simple printmaking, handmade bookbinding and relaxed community learning in one accessible session.

Print & Bind: Weekly Creative Workshops at Burnley Central Library

There’s something satisfying about making things by hand, especially when you can take them home at the end of the evening.

That’s the idea behind Print & Bind, a new weekly workshop from Community Studios CIC at Burnley Central Library. Designed as a welcoming and informal creative session for adults, the workshops combine experimental printmaking with simple handmade bookbinding techniques.

Using gel printing plates and water-based inks, participants will create layered prints full of colour, texture and pattern. No presses, specialist machinery or previous experience are needed: just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

Once the prints are dry, they can be transformed into handmade notebooks or sketchbooks using straightforward saddle-stitch binding techniques. Participants are also encouraged to work with found papers and recycled materials, making every book unique.

Everything needed for the session is provided, including paper, inks, thread, needles and binding materials. The workshops are aimed at adults aged 18+ and are designed to be approachable for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to reconnect with creative making in a relaxed environment.

Community Studios CIC aims to create accessible opportunities for people to explore art, creativity and practical making skills within the local community. Print & Bind continues that approach by offering low-cost, hands-on creative sessions in a familiar public space.

Whether you’re interested in printmaking, sketchbooks, zines, journalling or simply trying something new, Print & Bind offers a chance to slow down, make something tactile and spend time creating alongside others.

Hi I just wondered if you need to attend every week or if you can just come for the occasional session? I cannot commit to every Thursday.

Hi Margaret, there’s no need to commit to each week, you can just choose which dates are convenient. We’ve got three more sessions planned, so hopefully one of those will be good for you!

Hello, I’ve had a bit of a play with gel prints but am keen to explore putting photocopied images in there too. Is this something that you will be covering? Thanks

      Hi Joanne,
Yes we’ll be going in to image transfers tomorrow, starting with magazines to get the hang of it. For your own photocopied images, it would have to be laser printed, so if you would like to bring a few of your own to try we can explore that!

Hi are these running every week? We have only just heard about them, is it a long term programme? thanks

      Hi Sally,
Unfortunately we had the last of the four sessions yesterday! We’d love to put them on again in the near future, as well as other printmaking workshops, so if you’d like to hear when we’ve got them scheduled you can fill in the workshops enquiry form on the home page: https://communitystudios.art/ and I’ll send you an email with updates. Thanks for commenting!
